Dr. PowerSong. He ROCKS! After all, he does have his PHD in Rockology! But who is he? And how does he help us?! It's as simple as he states,
"My mission in life is to prescribe great tracks for people to sweat to."I do believe his mission is accomplished. Check him out and learn how to follow his tweets HERE.
Music moves. Music inspires. And not only that, but music can take your workout from good-to-great, fun-to-amazing & okay to rewarding and inspiring!
But this music is different for everyone. Music moves people in many different ways and on many different levels. Different beats motivate in many ways, but not necessarily in the same way for everyone. When hip-hop might be the PowerSong Genre for one person, country may be the PowerSong Genre for the other. The beauty is....there is no one right or wrong GENRE.
Let's create a Pied Piper MASTER POWERSONG List! Anything goes, since everyone will have different ideas about what their PowerSong is.
All you need to do is click on "Comments" or "Add Comment" and add your PowerSong(s)! (And yes, feel free to add a whole Playlist.) If you want, also feel free to place a comment next to the songs that have "special" meaning to you or have a "reason" for being a PowerSong for you.
Let the PowerSong move you!
I'll start with a few:
ReplyDelete- Boom Boom Pow (Yes, the "Official" song of the Pipers - you heard me say it on the video)
- Fight Like a Girl
- Honkey Tonk Stomp
- Smoke a Little Smoke
- I Didn't Know My Own Strength
- Rollin'
- Lose Yourself
- 'Till I Collapse
- Playaz Club
- Beverly Hills
- Poker Face
- Enter Sandman (takes me back to when I played hockey!)
- Pink Guitar
I'm really digging the new Pearl Jam song, "Got Some" off of Backspacer.
ReplyDelete"My Generation" by the Who is also a favorite.
I don't really consider it a Powersong because I don't "dance" with it, but if you need a great song with a driving beat, "Rebellion (Lies)" by The Arcade Fire is fantastic song to refocus and get you through a rough spot.
My Powersong is Re-Education (Through Labor) by Rise Against. The one before that was in 'Till I Collapse which is in Sarah's list also I see.
ReplyDeleteOther Motivators are Remedy-Seether, Wild Side-Motley Crue, and Far From Over-Rev Theory
I take a slightly different approach to the Powersong: since our music is designed to keep you moving through your whole run, I feel that both How To Turn Around A Bad Day and What Are You Made Of?!?—as well as our upcoming release As You Wish—are great motivators. I was able to PR my 5k this year with How To Turn Around A Bad Day by 4 minutes by choosing a faster BPM and sticking to the pace.
ReplyDeleteSome other non-Hella Sound songs of note:
* "Alive" by P.O.D.
* "Surprise, You're Dead" by Faith No More (my original Powersong choice, back in 06)
* "Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots
* "Cowboy" by Eve/Fatboy Slim (raunchy lyrics but a fantastic tempo)
Love this thread! And this topic! And Dr. Powersong!
Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
ReplyDelete2 quirky ones and totally unrelated:"I Run For Life": by Melissa Etheridge (this has become my anthem for the NWM in 2 weeks!) and "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus.... Yes, I said it... Miley Cyrus. It's a happy perky pop song....
ReplyDeleteYOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!!! I'll checking in here for ideas for new PowerSong Prescriptions! Let's get psyched for the Human Race!
ReplyDelete"Hell Yeah" Rev Theory
ReplyDelete"She's Country" Jason Aldean
"To Be Loved" Papa Roach
David Guetta feat Will.I.Am - On the Dancefloor
ReplyDelete(Really, David Guetta's entire 'One Love' album!)
Sean Kingston - Fire Burning
Michael Franti & Spearhead - Say Hey (I Love You)
Muse - Supermassive Black Hole
Goodbye - Kristinia Debarge
:)
Agree with sarahKayhoffman on Eminem's "Lose Yourself". Convinced that song helped me qualify for Boston back in 2002.
ReplyDeleteMeximelt by Southern Culture on the Skids. The live version. When the Nike+ voice says "one kilometer to go" I hit that and enjoy the negative split!
